Module # 25-04 Crime Mapping for Domestic Violence

This course gives participants a quick start in crime mapping and specific training in the process of mapping domestic violence.

The class is limited to 12 students and is conducted in a computer lab setting.

Goals of the course are to help uniformed officers and detectives realize the need for daily access to real crime data and the procedures for keeping crime data current.

Officers also learn the importance of noting and documenting changes in patterns on the crime map as well as the need for backup information related to map points such as location type, suspect MO, vehicle description and victim data.

Participants also learn the procedures for producing custom maps for special needs.

Basic computer skills such as file retrieval and use of spreadsheets as well as basic knowledge of crime mapping are recommended for participation in this course.
